Lance Armstrong beats NYC Marathon Time

We’d like to congratulate Lance Armstrong, who put his best marathon time up yet, at 2:46:43.

That’s about a 13-minute improvement on his last marathon. A lot of people may wonder why it’s newsworthy when a world-champion athlete is making progress in yet another athletic event.

Well, for us, a part of the reason it’s important is that the marathon experience is incredibly difficult, as Lance describes it. Having a world-champion athlete talk about how grueling it is to run a marathon certainly lends a lot of respect for people that run them, and it highlights how important it is to train well to reach that finish line.

It’s also notable to us because Lance Armstrong has been featured recently with running guru and Podfitness Trainer (as well as all-around amazing person) Jeff Galloway. Jeff and Lance did a great interview together with Sanjay Gupta on CNN.

My favorite quote from the interview is when Jeff comments on the people who are initially skeptical of his run/walk strategy to build endurance. His reply:

“I ask people, do you want to be strong during the first six miles, or the last six miles?”

I’m not sure if Lance followed Jeff’s run/walk program, but Jeff says in the interview that he works with a lot of people that have trouble breaking the three-hour mark without using it.

At this very moment, our content team is helping Jeff put together a Podfitness run/walk Marathon Training program that takes you through the process of gearing up for an injury-free marathon. We’ll update when that’s ready for you to check out!
