As I workout (or don’t) I learn more about myself. For the last few months I have been working out with Chris Kluge in the mornings before work. Well, that’s to say I was before I had my wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago. Now I’m perfectly healed and having a really hard time getting back into the swing of things. You won’t hear any excuses coming from me, but needless to say I’ve found myself repeating some of the phrases in this questionaire either internally or to others. The fact of the matter is, I’m a drop out and I think most people are. Well now that I’ve recognized I hope I’ll be able to start again. Now that I’ve made the declaration publically I’ll try to keep myself accountable to the masses.

If you recognize yourself in the statements below, beware. You may need to make a special effort to stick to a program. Check off any statement that sounds like it could have come out of your mouth:

“This time, I’m really going to stick to it! I mean it, I’m totally, 100% committed!”
This person sounds like she’s trying to convince herself but not really succeeding.

“I’m potentially thinking that maybe I might join this class.”
This person hasn’t really made up his mind. He’s not committed. Although he sounds very different, he’s actually an awful lot like the person who says…

“I have to start TOMORROW. No delay!”
This person is afraid that she’s going to lose her resolve. It’s probably happened to her before.

“Well, afternoons don’t work. And I can’t do mornings. I can come Tuesdays at noon, but not this Tuesday. Or next Tuesday…”
The President of the United States works out almost every day! If people really want to exercise, they find the time.

“I’ll squeeze it in at lunchtime. I can just run out between meetings.”
This person hasn’t acknowledged to himself that exercise must be its own priority, and if he doesn’t do that, it’ll always get shoved to the bottom of the to-do list. Which means it won’t happen.

“I can’t wait to start. But first, I need to buy some new clothes. And some new shoes. And a mat. And I want to read up on it, too.”
My wife is like this. She loves shopping and everything involved in the preparation stage. But once she has all the stuff she needs for yoga or rollerblading or whatever, she loses interest.

If any of these statements remind you of yourself, use it as a warning sign to re-commit yourself to sticking to your exercise plan.

Now we here at Podfitness aren’t sure if this is a valid story or not, but reports coming from the New York Post are saying that Michael Phelps eats 4,000 calories each time he sits down for a meal and over 12,000 calories a day!

If this is true, he must be doing a lot of swimming to keep it off! Here are the stats on what he supposedly eats per day:

Breakfast consists of three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.

Lunch is a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread - capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

At dinner it’s a pound of pasta and an entire pizza, and another 1,000 calories of energy drinks.

Now our trainers here are saying that’s impossible and he would gain weight regardless of how much swimming he’s doing, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

On a similar note, GO USA SWIMMING! Phelps and company have been demolishing the competition. Just check out this video from the 4×100 meter team relay. Amazing! It really makes me want to spur our content team to get some swimming programs in place for those that have waterproof MP3 players.

Some of you may have been wondering what HealthVault is and how it can can affect your Podfitness experience. Well, it offers Podfitness users a world of new features, including some our users have wanted since we launched.

First, HealthVault shows your Workout History, allowing you to track your previous workouts in detail.

With HealthVault, Podfitness can target and track more specific health-related goals, like helping you achieve a specific weight, blood pressure, cholesterol level, etc.

Graphs of your HealthVault-linked goals, for at-a-glance progress tracking.

Automatic (and secure) synchronization between your Podfitness account and your HealthVault profile: make a change in one, and it’s carried over to the other.

There are many more HealthVault partners that offer free services that will automatically tie to your HealthVault account. For instance, one of them lets you turn a treadmill run or walk into a virtual map around your neighborhood, to give you an idea of how far you’re really going (and you can share it with friends). Expect lots more cool stuff like that here.

Even more possibilities (stay tuned for info about HealthVault and Nike+ compatibility with Podfitness…)

To get all this extra benefit, just sign up for HealthVault and tie your HealthVault account to your Podfitness account. Keep reading to get specific instructions on how to tie the accounts together.

To link up your HealthVault account with your Podfitness one, you need to complete a few steps.
1) Register for a Microsoft HealthVault account here.
2) After your HealthVault account is created, click the Login button under the Microsoft HealthVault section on this page and sign-in to your Windows Live account.
4) After you have signed in to your Windows Live account, sign-in to your Podfitness account here.

You will need to sign-in to HealthVault before signing in to Podfitness each time, and if working correctly you should see a Microsoft HealthVault logo in the top right hand corner of the Podfitness home page. If you have any questions or would to be walked through the steps by a live person give us a call at 801-990-1992 or email us at support@podfitness.com.

Songs from Sony, Warner, EMI and Universal are all available. As most of our users know Podfitness workouts don’t mix with songs that are copyright protected so this is another big win for us all.

The only restriction as far as I can tell is that the Rhapsody subscription songs are still protected, but that doesn’t bother me too much since I am usually puchasing my songs or albums piece by piece.

It’s good to see that the music industry is finally listening to it’s customers and delivering on what they want.
